What can I do when my Forerunner or Edge will neither power on nor take a charge?

The Forerunner or Edge from time to time may not power on or take a charge. A soft reset can be performed to unfreeze it. No user information will be lost by doing this reset. The reset is most effective when the device is connected to the computer.

The soft reset instructions listed below pertain to the following fitness devices:

  • Forerunner 310XT, 305, 205, 301, 201 or 101
  • Edge 305 and 205

To reset Forerunner or Edge:

  1. Connect device to computer (except on Forerunner 310XT)
  2. Press and hold Mode and Lap/Reset for 10 seconds
  3. Release both buttons
  4. Power device on once device starts to charge

Once the device is powered on, update the device’s operating system using WebUpdater. Once the device is on and updated, do not remove from charger until the display shows fully charged.
