Garmin periodically releases software updates to add features or improve the performance of our devices. Many newer Garmin marine chartplotters accept the software update via the SD Card slot inside of the device. The required software update can be downloaded from the Garmin website, or purchased directly from Garmin.
Updates purchased directly from Garmin are programmed onto a 4GB SD card. Unfortunately, some Garmin devices running older versions of software are unable to recognize any SD card larger than 2GB. In these cases, the update must be downloaded from the Garmin website onto an SD Card with at least 512MB of free space, but is no larger than 2GB.
