If the Garmin Communicator Plugin does not see the Garmin USB device, but the computer does, it may be because of the following:

  • There could be a hardware conflict with another USB device. Disconnect all USB devices except the mouse and keyboard.

  • The latest version of the Garmin Communicator Plugin may not be installed or the computer does not meet the minimum system requirements.

The latest version of the Garmin Communicator Plugin can be found here:

http://www.garmin.com/communicator

The Garmin Communicator Plugin page is also the test page. If the Garmin Communicator Plugin is up to date and the Garmin GPS device is recognized on this page, then everything is working properly. Try the web site where the GPS device was not recognized by the Garmin Communicator Plugin. If the issue still occurs notify the web administrator of that web site. This can normally be done by clicking the Contact Us link at the bottom of the webpage.

  • The Garmin device is not running the latest version of software. To update the software use Garmin WebUpdater.

http://www.garmin.com/webupdater

WebUpdater is a program installed on either a PC or Mac that will indicate if there is a firmware or software update for the GPS device and will even download and install it. WebUpdater is a free download available by going to the Garmin website.

  • There may be a problem with the GarminDevice.xml file.
