What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client?

Common issues with Garmin Express are usually attributed to out of date software, the device configuration data, or communications with the device. Completing a few suggestions will resolve most common issues.

Suggestions for common issues:

  • Ensure the computer meets the minimum system requirements by reviewing the FAQ: What are the minimum system requirements for Garmin Express?
  • Connect the device to a USB port directly on the back or side of the computer avoiding any external USB hubs, USB  extension cables, or USB  ports on the keyboard or monitor
  • Use a USB  Data Transfer cable only, avoid USB charging cables
  • Ensure Garmin Express is up to date as they are released frequently
    • To check for Garmin Express Updates

    • PC
      1. Open Garmin Express
      2. Click Settings in the upper-right (Gear icon)
      3. Click Check for Application Updates
    • Mac
      1. Open Garmin Express
      2. Click Garmin Express in the Menu Bar
      3. Click About Garmin Express
      4. Click Check for Application Updates
  • Deleting the device then reassociating it will update the configuration data

    • To delete the device and reassociate it

    • PC
      1. Open Garmin Express
      2. Click Device
      3. Click Delete Device from Express
      4. Uncheck the box next to Delete the saved backups
      5. Click Yes to delete the device
      6. Close Garmin Express and restart the computer
      7. Open Garmin Express and follow the on-screen prompts to add the device to Express
    • Mac
      1. Open Garmin Express
      2. Click Device
      3. Click Delete Device from Express
      4. Uncheck the box next to Delete the saved backups
      5. Click Remove
      6. Close Garmin Express and restart the Mac
      7. Open Garmin Express and follow the on-screen prompts to add the device to Express
