Creating Routes in MapSource using Trip Logs from Automotive Devices

To create a route from the trip log on your automotive device that features multiple point routing, you must first have MapSource installed on your computer.

Note that devices that use Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) mode are not compatible with MapSource. However, MTP devices can work in this way with BaseCamp. For a list of MTP devices and instructions on using BaseCamp to create a route from tracks, see the related content.

To Create a Route from the Trip Log in MapSource:

  1. Plug the GPS device into the computer with the USB cable
  2. Open the MapSource program
  3. In MapSource, choose Transfer, and then Receive from Device
    • If the desired device is not listed in the box, click the Find Device button
  4. Select the Tracks option and click Receive
  5. After the tracks are received, click Tools
  6. Click the Route tool
  7. Click on the tracks and "trace" them to create a route

Once the route is created, you can transfer it back to your device using the Transfer menu from step 3. This process only works for devices that record a trip log (tracks) and are compatible with both MapSource and multiple stop routing.
