What Is a Preset Message?

Preset messages are a convenient way of sending quick messages to a predefined group of family and friends from your inReach satellite communicator. What a preset message says and who the message is sent to is determined ahead of time on your online inReach account and cannot be edited on your inReach device. A preset message is not to be used for an emergency.


How Many Preset Messages Can I Have?

Each inReach account is limited to 3 preset messages that can be edited at any time.


How Do I Edit or Add Location to Preset Messages?

What Contact Options Are There for Sending a Preset Message? Can I Send Social Messages Using the Preset Message?

NOTICE: Effective July 1, 2024, the ability to post to Facebook® pages and X (formerly known as Twitter®) from inReach devices is no longer available. Users can still send tracking updates to a LiveTrack™ page from an inReach device, and can send messages as well as tracking updates to a MapShare™ page. You can share your MapShare or LiveTrack link on social media using a computer or mobile device with internet access.

Preset messages can be sent to phone (SMS text) numbers, e-mail addresses, and other inReach devices.


I Edited My Preset Messages on My Online Account. Why Do My Edited Preset Messages Not Appear on My inReach Device?


My Plan Says I Have Unlimited Preset Messages. Do Preset Messages Count Against My Monthly Message Allotment?

Outgoing preset messages and received preset messages from another inReach device do not count against the monthly message allotment for inReach Consumer plans.


Do Replies to My Preset Messages Count Against My Monthly Message Allotment?

Yes, any message replies sent back to your inReach device, including direct replies to preset messages, count against your monthly message allotment.


Can I Send Preset Messages Through the Earthmate® or Garmin Explore Apps?

Yes, both the Earthmate app and the Garmin Explore app can send preset messages.
