Creating and Editing Contacts on the Garmin Explore Website
The contact list in the inReach® satellite navigator works like a phonebook, allowing to quickly send messages without spending time typing out an email address or phone number.
Personal Contacts
IMPORTANT: You must sync your inReach device after making changes to contacts for the changes to be visible on the inReach device. For information on syncing, see Related.
Adding a New Contact
Adding contacts to the inReach account and syncing them to the inReach device and Garmin Explore™ app or Earthmate® app allows for composing messages faster.
IMPORTANT: Log into the account the inReach device is assigned to, to edit the contacts for that device.
Select Contacts (you may need to select My Info in the top banner to see Contacts).
NOTE: On mobile browsers, select in the top left, then Contacts.
Select Add.
Enter the contact's information.
NOTE: To be valid, a contact must have the First Name, Last Name, and at least one of these fields entered: Email, inReach Addr, or Mobile Phone. Select a country code when entering a Mobile Phone number.
Select Save.
Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each contact to be added.
Sync your inReach device when done.
Editing a Contact
If the information for one of the contacts on the account changes, update the contact by editing their information.
IMPORTANT: Log into the account the inReach device is assigned to, to edit the contacts for that device.
Select Contacts (you may need to select My Info in the top banner to see Contacts).
NOTE: On mobile browsers, select in the top left, then Contacts.
Under YOUR PERSONAL CONTACTS, click the name of the contact to be edited.
Select Edit.
Update the contact information.
NOTE: To be valid, a contact must have the First Name, Last Name, and at least one of these fields entered: Email, inReach Addr, or Mobile Phone. Select a country code when entering a Mobile Phone number.
Select Save.
Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each contact to be edited.
Sync your inReach device when done.
Deleting a Contact
Use the instructions below to remove a contact from an inReach online account.
IMPORTANT: Log into the account the inReach device is assigned to, to edit the contacts for that device.
Select Contacts (you may need to select My Info in the top banner to see Contacts).
NOTE: On mobile browsers, select in the top left, then Contacts.
Under YOUR PERSONAL CONTACTS, click the name of the contact to be deleted.
Select Edit.
Select Delete.
In the Delete Contact window, select Delete.
Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each contact to be deleted.
Sync your inReach device when done.
Items to Note Regarding Your Contact
When an inReach account is set up, a contact is automatically created with your contact information under Your Contact on the Contacts page in your Garmin Explore™ account.
Example
The contact details will be displayed when selecting the name under Your Contact.
This contact contains your email address, mobile phone number, and inReach address, and is added to your inReach device after syncing. Changes made to this information on the Account page of your Garmin Explore account will then change the contact information for Your Contact. Another sync is required for the changes to be reflected on your inReach device.
If you manually created an additional contact with your information and need this information changed on your inReach device, that additional, manually created contact needs to be edited to have the changes reflected on your inReach device after syncing.
NOTE: There is no need to create another contact with your contact information, unless you have additional information not included with Your Contact, such as an alternative email address. If you do this, it is recommended to make the contact name different than the name for Your Contact to avoid any confusion.
Emergency Contacts
NOTE: Emergency contacts can be edited, but cannot be deleted. It is required to have two emergency contacts saved on the account. If activating an SOS on the inReach device, as part of the process, the Garmin Response™ center will use the contact information first. They will then contact the people listed as emergency contacts. Therefore, it is best to enter completely unique information.
NOTE: On mobile browsers, select in the top left, then ACCOUNT.
Select Edit next to your name.
If you do not see this option, select My Info.
Select EDIT.
Make any necessary changes to your name, country of residence or citizenship, address, or phone number.
Select the EMERGENCY NOTES field and enter the desired information, then select NEXT.
Update or change the contact information under PRIMARY CONTACT and SECONDARY CONTACT as needed, then select NEXT.
Review your changes, then scroll down and select UPDATE.
Select CLOSE once you see UPDATE COMPLETE.
