"There was an Error Reading Files from the Registry" Error in MapSource

Description

The error message There was an error reading files from the registry typically indicates that there is a problem with the MapSource® mapping software installation or the permissions on the computer.


Resolution

Reinstalling the program may resolve this issue when using MapSource software on a Windows Vista or newer computer. Make sure the latest version of the MapSource program is installed.

If that does not fix the problem, follow these steps to run the application as administrator:

  1. Press the Windows key + E
    • Select This PC if on Windows 10
  2. Open the C: drive
  3. Open the Programs Files (x86) folder (Program Files for 32-bit machines)
  4. Open the Garmin folder
  5. Open the MapSource folder and right-click MapSource.exe
  6. Click Properties
  7. Select the Compatibility tab
  8. In the Privilege Level1 box check the box next to Run this program as an administrator
  9. Click Apply
  10. Click OK

1On Windows 10 computer this will be in the Settings box.

The program will now launch properly.
