Automotive Device Shutting Down or Rebooting While Plugged Into a Vehicle
Your Garmin Automotive device should not shut down or reboot while plugged into a vehicle. There are four main resolutions to this issue.
Make Sure your Device is Plugged Directly into your Vehicle with its Original Garmin Power Cable:
Do not use a splitter, USB, or third-party cable.
- Ensure the cable is securely inserted into the port on the powered mount.
- See the owner's manual of your device if you're unsure where to plug in the vehicle power cable on your device.
Your vehicle power cable and receptacle need to be debris-free and clean in order to make a proper mechanical and electrical connection.
- Ensure the cable is plugged in all the way to the cigarette lighter or 12V outlet and the LED light is lit.
See Buying Automotive Accessories Directly from Garmin for instructions to purchase a replacement Garmin power cable.
Remove any Memory Cards in the Device:
Format the memory card if this resolves your issue.
For instructions go to the Support Center and enter the product name or the serial number of your device.
Once your device is selected click Other and search for "Formatting a microSD/SD Memory Card".
Ensure the Device Software is Up to Date:
Make Sure it is not Too Hot in the Vehicle:
Shutdown logs can be sent to Garmin Product Support for review if the issue continues.
