Automotive Device Shutting Down or Rebooting While Plugged Into a Vehicle

Your Garmin Automotive device should not shut down or reboot while plugged into a vehicle. There are four main resolutions to this issue.

Make Sure your Device is Plugged Directly into your Vehicle with its Original Garmin Power Cable:

  • Do not use a splitter, USB, or third-party cable.

  • Ensure the cable is securely inserted into the port on the powered mount.
    • See the owner's manual of your device if you're unsure where to plug in the vehicle power cable on your device.
  • Your vehicle power cable and receptacle need to be debris-free and clean in order to make a proper mechanical and electrical connection.

    • Ensure the cable is plugged in all the way to the cigarette lighter or 12V outlet and the LED light is lit.
  • See Buying Automotive Accessories Directly from Garmin for instructions to purchase a replacement Garmin power cable.

Remove any Memory Cards in the Device:

  • Format the memory card if this resolves your issue.

  • For instructions go to the Support Center and enter the product name or the serial number of your device.

    • Once your device is selected click Other and search for "Formatting a microSD/SD Memory Card".

Ensure the Device Software is Up to Date:

Make Sure it is not Too Hot in the Vehicle:

Shutdown logs can be sent to Garmin Product Support for review if the issue continues.
