My Garmin Device Is Not Receiving Smart Notifications from My Phone When Paired to Garmin Golf
If you are having issues with notifications from your phone not showing on your Garmin device, follow the steps below to ensure that the settings on your Garmin device and your phone are configured correctly.
For the best experience, your device should be paired with the Garmin Golf™ app and the Garmin Connect™ app. Ensure you are paired to both applications before continuing to the steps below.
For specific device instructions, refer to your owner's manual.
Ensure that the Bluetooth Setting is set to On. This setting is usually found under Settings > Bluetooth/Phone.
Enable the Notifications widget. This setting is usually found under Settings > Widgets or in the Garmin Golf App under your Device > Device Settings.
Ensure that the widget settings reflect your choice of notifications to receive (e.g., on, off, show calls only, show calls and texts only, etc.).
Confirm Do Not Disturb is set to off.
Check the Settings on Your Phone
Choose your phone type below to reveal steps to follow to check the settings of your phone.
iOS
Step 1: Check Bluetooth Settings
From the iPhone, select Settings.
Select Bluetooth.
Ensure Bluetooth is toggled on.
Under MY DEVICES select the "i" icon next to your Garmin device.
Toggle Share System Notifications to on.
Step 2: Review App Permission Settings
Open the Garmin Golf app.
Select Settings.
Select App Permissions.
For the best user experience, your settings should toggle on all settings.
Step 3: Review App Notification Settings
From the iPhone Settings, select Notifications.
At the top next to Show Previews, ensure you have Always or When Unlocked selected. This is a setting required by Apple to display notifications on a Bluetooth paired device.
Under NOTIFICATION STYLE, scroll down and select Messages (this will address text messages):
Toggle Allow Notifications on.
Under ALERTS, all options should be checked.
Show Previews must be set to Always (Default) or When Unlocked. This is a setting required by Apple to display notifications on a Bluetooth paired device.
If you have Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode (introduced with iOS 15) enabled on your iPhone, your paired Garmin device will not receive pop-up notifications from your phone. Select your iOS system below to reveal detailed information and instructions to adjust these settings.
iOS 15
The Focus feature on iOS 15 devices allows you to customize when you receive alerts and notifications on your phone. When any Focus setting is enabled (including Do Not Disturb), you will not receive a pop-up smart notification on your Garmin device (even if you have allowed notifications from certain people or apps). To receive smart notifications as pop-up alerts on your Garmin device, you will need to disable the Focus mode by following these steps:
From the iPhone, select Settings.
Select Focus.
If any Focus option shows On, select it and then toggle it off.
If you choose to enable a Focus mode on your iOS device (including Do Not Disturb), smart notifications will appear in your notifications widget if all other settings are configured correctly (see steps 1-3 above). However, they will not appear as pop-up notifications on your watch, regardless if you have allowed notifications from certain people or apps for that Focus mode.
iOS 14 and Earlier
When using Do Not Disturb, your iPhone will silence calls, alerts, and notifications on your iOS device. This means that your Garmin watch will also not receive pop-up smart notifications from your mobile device. To turn off Do Not Disturb, follow these steps:
From the iPhone, select Settings.
Select Do Not Disturb.
Toggle off Do Not Disturb.
If you choose to enable Do Not Disturb on your iOS device, smart notifications will appear in your notifications widget if all other settings are configured correctly (see steps 1-3 above). However, they will not appear as pop-up notifications on your watch.
Android
Step 1: Review App Permission Settings
Steps may vary by phone or Android version. Contact your mobile carrier if you need help with these steps.
Open your phone's Settings.
Select App Settings.
Select Garmin Golf.
Select Permissions.
If any permissions related to notifications (SMS, Contacts, Phone, Call Log) say OFF, select Manage and enable the related permissions.
Step 2: Review App Notification Settings
Open the Garmin Golf app.
Select Settings.
Select App Permissions.
Toggle to enable or disable smart notifications from All Applications or customize by selecting individual applications from which you would like to receive smart notifications
Step 3: Confirm that Message Preview has been enabled in your messaging app and that Notification Access has been granted to the Garmin Golf App
The following are general steps and may not match your particular phone:
Open the phone's Settings menu.
Select the magnifying glass icon at the top of the screen.
Input “Access” into the search box.
Select Notification Access or Access to Notifications.
On some phones you may need to select Special Access first.
Enable access to Notifications for Garmin Golf.
Confirm That Your Sleep Time Settings Are Correct
If you have enabled the Do Not Disturb while sleeping feature on your Garmin watch, you will want to check to make sure that your sleep time settings are configured correctly. Remember that you will not receive notifications during your sleep window when you have this feature enabled. For instructions on how check this setting, see - Setting Sleep and Wake Window Times in Garmin Connect
After making all the necessary adjustments per the above instructions and syncing your device, it may also be necessary to power-cycle both your device and your phone.
