What Connection Type Should I Use and How Do I Change It?
If your Garmin® device supports secure connections for accessories, you may want to change the sensor connection type between Open and Secure.
For more information on the differences between Open and Secure connection types, and a list of device that support secure connections, see What Are Open and Secure Connection Types in Garmin Accessories?.
NOTICE: If you have already added your accessory to your watch or Edge® cycling computer using one connection type, remove that connection before re-adding it using another connection type.
HRM 200
Tip: Hold the HRM 200 in your hands so you can easily see the button (1) and LED (2). (The HRM will only go to sleep after two minutes of not being worn and no button presses.)
Ensure the HRM 200 is awake by pressing the button once.
The LED will blink green to indicate it is awake:
Double-blink: Secure connection type
Triple-blink: Open connection type
To change the connection type, double-press the button.
You can pair your HRM 200 with your device once more. If pairing while in secure mode, put HRM 200 in pairing mode. See How Do I Enable Pairing Mode on My HRM 200? for more information.
What Connection Type Should I Use?
The secure connection is a good choice if you plan to connect your HRM 200 to one or two newer Garmin devices that support secure connections, see What Are Open and Secure Connection Types in Garmin Accessories? for more information. When the HRM is set to use the Secure connection type (LED blinking twice), only devices capable of making secure connections can find it. The HRM may not be found, or connectable, by older Garmin devices, fitness equipment, or most third part apps.
If you plan to use your HRM 200 with older Garmin devices, third party apps, or fitness equipment, set it to use the open connection type (LED blinks three times). When the HRM is set to use the open connection type, it can form open connections or secure connections.
