Windows:
1. Connect your device to the computer.
2. Open File Explorer (Windows key + E)
- Click This PC when it appears (Windows 10 and newer)
3. Open the Garmin or the device name drive once it appears (ex. DriveSmart, dezl).
4. Click on Internal Storage.
- Skip this step on some devices.
6. Open the POI folder,
- Double click the Garmin folder first on some devices.
7. Set the POI folder to show the files in a list form to show the date/time. You will then be able to see which files were downloaded when you installed them. They will have the same timestamp.
Tip: To change to list form, click on the list icon in the lower right corner of the opened POI folder.

8. Delete all the .gpi, .unl, .gma files with the same latest timestamp.
Mac:
NOTE: It is recommended that a Windows computer be used for the devices in Automotive Device Compatibility with Garmin Mac Applications on macOS. Files cannot be viewed when connected to a Mac computer.
For all other devices, follow the steps below:
1. Connect your device to the computer
2. Open the GARMIN drive on your desktop
3. Open the POI folder
- Click the Garmin folder first on some devices.
5. Set the folder to show the files in a list form to show by date/time. You will then be able to see which files were downloaded when you installed them. They will have the same timestamp.
Tip: To change to list form, click on the list icon in the lower right corner of the opened POI folder.

6. Delete all the .gpi, .unl, .gma files with the same latest downloaded timestamp.
Once the file has been deleted, ensure that the latest software is installed on your device. The
Garmin Express application can be used to check for and apply software updates.
Once the device software has been updated, safely disconnect the device from the computer to ensure that the update completes, then reconnect the device. Next, sign in to your account in Garmin Express.
