BMW Motorrad Navigator V or VI Won't Turn On

If the BMW Motorrad Navigator V or BMW Motorrad Navigator VI will not power on or if it is frozen on a specific screen, perform a soft reset and a software update.

To Perform a Soft Reset:

  1. Connect the Motorrad to a power source such as a computer or AC outlet.

    • The cradle mount on the bike does not have a power button.
    • Remove the device from the bike and connect to a different power source to perform the soft reset.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 8-10 seconds.

  3. If this does not restore power, remove the battery for a few moments.

    • See the detailed video below
  4. Place the battery back into the Motorrad.

  5. If the device still will not power on, remove the battery from the Motorrad and plug the Motorrad into a computer with a USB cable.

  6. Place the battery back into the Motorrad.

The device will now power on. The battery may have been depleted while the device was locked up.  If the device does not power on right away, leave it plugged into a power source for at least 30 minutes and follow the above steps again.

See instructions for updating the software by reviewing the Software section under your device in Support Center. Performing a soft reset and updating software should prevent the black screen on devices with an extremely low battery. See Issues with Wiring or Mount for a BMW Motorrad Navigator Device for other helpful information.
