Battery Charging Issues with an Alpha 200 Series Handheld

If the Lithium-ion battery for the Alpha® 200 dog tracking handheld is not charging at all or fails to charge completely, follow these instructions.

NOTE: Use the USB charging cable and AC adaptor that came with the Alpha 200 handheld to ensure a proper charge.

Battery Not Charging

  • Make sure the software is up to date with the Garmin Express™ program. For instructions, see - Installing Software Updates to the Alpha 200 and Alpha 300 Series Handheld
  • Trying a different Garmin USB cable and AC adaptor.
  • Leave the Alpha 200 handheld connected to charge for 3 hours.
  • If the Alpha 200 handheld is showing that the battery is charging but the battery is not taking a charge the battery would need to be replaced. 
  • If after changing the charging cables if the Alpha 200 handheld is not showing any sign of charging, the device the device may need to be exchange.

Battery Not Charging to 100%

  • Make sure the software is up to date with the Garmin Express™ program. For instructions, see - Installing Software Updates to the Alpha 200 and Alpha 300 Series Handheld
  • Try recalibrating the battery;
    1. Charge the battery in the Alpha handheld for 3 hours. 
    2. Allow the battery to completely discharge.
    3. Charge for 3 hours. 
    4. Repeat Steps 1-3 up to 3 times to recalibrate the battery.
  • If the battery continues to not complete a charge a replacement battery may be needed.
