NMEA data bridging using a Legacy Garmin Marine Chartplotter/Sounder
Garmin's Legacy NMEA 2000 compatible chartplotters and sounders can accept data using either NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000. Some data that is accepted via one NMEA source can be bridged and output using the other NMEA source. (For example, some data received via NMEA 0183 can be output via NMEA 2000.)
The data that can be input through NMEA 0183 and output as NMEA 2000 is:
- GPS Position (4xxx through 70xx/72xx series only)
- GPS Satellite Info (4xxx through 70xx/72xx series only)
- GPS COG/SOG (4xxx through 70xx/72xx series only)
- Heading
- Magnetic Variation
- Water Depth
- Water Temperature
- Water Speed
- Wind Direction/Speed
The data that can be input through NMEA 2000 and output as NMEA 0183 is:
- GPS Position (4xxx through 70xx/72xx series only)
- GPS Satellite Info (4xxx through 70xx/72xx series only)
- GPS COG/SOG (4xxx through 70xx/72xx series only)
- Water Depth
- Water Temperature
- Water Speed
- Wind Direction/Speed
All of these products will also originate and output the following information via NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000:
- GPS Data
- Navigation Data
- Water Depth (Sounder model only)
- Water Temperature (Sounder model only)
- Water Speed (Sounder model only)
