My Garmin Watch or Edge Device Does Not Stay Connected to My iPhone

iPhones may occasionally prevent Bluetooth® devices from automatically reconnecting in order to save battery. This can result in the following issues:

  • Steps on the watch are not showing in the Garmin Connect™ app.

  • Activities on the watch or Edge® cycling computer are not syncing to the Garmin Connect app.

  • The watch or Edge device stops showing notifications from your phone.

When a paired device is close to being out of range of Bluetooth for an extended period, multiple attempts to reconnect can occur and iPhones will sever or disable the Bluetooth connection. Once this occurs, the paired device will not automatically reconnect once it is back within Bluetooth range of the iPhone.

To resolve this, go into Settings > Bluetooth on the iPhone and tap on the name of your Garmin® device. Once this has been done, the paired watch or Edge device should reconnect. Note that this is not a permanent solution and this step may need to be repeated in the future if the watch is close to being out of range of Bluetooth for an extended period.
