Serial Number Location for Garmin® Marine Devices & Serialized Accessories

Not all Garmin® devices have serial numbers, and not all devices with serial numbers can be registered, such as VHF & AIS radios. Serial numbers do not have hyphens or special characters. They contain only numbers and at most two letters after the first number which will then be followed by 6 to 7 numbers. The entire serial number of a Garmin device is 9 characters in length.

In most cases, the serial number of a device can be found either underneath or on the back of a product. Some less evident spots it may be found are under the removable mount or even in a customer serviceable removable access panel. In some cases the serial number can also be located on a tag, or hidden in an obscure place where it is not otherwise noticeable. If the original box is available, the serial number is often on a sticker.

When corresponding with Garmin and the serial number of a device is not accessible, then in cases where an installed NMEA 2000 system or Garmin Marine Network accessory is working, but the serial number is not accessible, the Unit ID can be provided to Product Support. The Unit ID of a Garmin Product can be located through a connected Garmin chartplotter via the NMEA 2000 device list; from the Home screen, select  Settings > Communications > NMEA 2000 Setup > Device List > select the NMEA 2000 device and select Review. Another option is by going to Settings > System > System Information > Garmin Devices. On GPSMAP devices with newer software, the previously mentioned sequences will begin by selecting Options.

Legacy devices will have this information starting on the Home page and then selecting Configure > System > System Information > Garmin Devices.
