Deleting Supplemental Mapping from an Automotive Device

Supplemental maps sent directly to the internal memory of an automotive device will remain on it until the file(s) are deleted.

Use the Following Instructions To Delete Supplemental Mapping on These Devices:

NOTE: It is recommended to back up files to your computer before deleting. This may take some time, especially for larger files.

  1. Connect the device to the computer
  2. Open the Garmin or nüvi® device icon
    • Windows: Hold down the Windows key + "E" to open Windows Explorer where the Garmin device will be listed
      • For Windows 10 or 11, click This PC
    • Mac: Open Finder, then Devices, where the Garmin device will be listed
  3. Open the Garmin folder
  4. Delete the gmapsupp.img file
    • NOTE: It is not recommended to delete unknown or un-labeled map files as they may be regions of a needed current map update. Files can be copied to the computer first as a backup.
  5. Empty the Trash (Mac only)
  6. Disconnect the device (Eject the device from the Mac before disconnecting)

Following the relevant instructions above will remove the supplemental mapping from the device. The mapping will no longer be available on the device.
