Map Link from an inReach SMS Message is Not Showing the Track

When sending messages to your friends and family from an inReach® satellite communicator, there are multiple types of links that can be included for them to view a map showing location information.

The different types of links are listed below.

Location of Where a Message Was Sent From

This is controlled by the SMS Message Configuration settings of the Account page at the Garmin Explore™ website. This is an optional setting labeled as "Include a link to an online map of my location".

When enabled, it will include a link in every SMS message sent. This link only displays the location from which that particular message was sent. It will not display tracks, nor will it update over time.

LiveTrack or MapShare Link

This can be sent from the inReach device by selecting the Share option when starting tracking, and will take viewers to your LiveTrack™ page or your MapShare™ page, depending on which you have enabled on your account.

MapShare

When enabled, a MapShare page displays the user's current location, current track, and any other data in the Collection(s) that has been enabled for MapShare.

This link can also be found on the MapShare page of your Garmin Explore website account, and sent from there to friends and family before heading out on your trip.
