What to do with the Garmin eLog ELD while the Truck is Being Serviced or Repaired

The Garmin eLog™ Compliant ELD should remain plugged in at all times. This will ensure you remain FMCSA compliant and avoid a power compliance malfunction.

Create a RODS Report before getting it serviced to ensure you have your driving data available in case of an audit. A RODS Report cannot be created, saved, or exported without being actively connected to the Garmin eLog.

Log out of the Garmin eLog™ app while still connected via Bluetooth to the Garmin eLog ELD adapter before the semi-truck is serviced. It is also suggested to close the eLog app.

NOTE: Logging out after disconnecting Bluetooth from the Garmin eLog ELD adapter (or going out of Bluetooth range) can cause the driving time to be recorded against your profile.

When properly logged out of the eLog app as described above, all driving time done by a mechanic is recorded to the unidentified driver and would not be assigned to a driver profile.
