Supported File Type for Background Image on Garmin Chartplotters

The start up screen of Garmin GPSMAP chartplotters can have the screen changed by uploading a compatible image to the device using an SD card. The supported file types on Garmin chartplotters are .JPG , .BMP and .PNG. The image size matters, and display type plays a factor in the size of pixels that best suit the chartplotter. Refer to recommended sizes listed in the owners manual.

NOTES: 
• Replacing a startup image replaces a window within a new start screen.
• Scaling can sometimes end up with some distortion. For optimum results use the correct image size (or larger).
• If the aspect ratio of the image doesn't fit into the user area the MFD / Chartplotter will fill the user area with the background color to stop the image appearing windowed.
• User area definitions are located in the table below. Instructions on how to load the images are covered below.

To replace the startup image there are two options to do so.


Option 1
  1. Insert an SD card with the desired startup image.  The file needs to needs to be jpg, bmp or png and can go in any directory of the sd card

  2. Navigate to Home > Settings > System > Sounds and Display > Startup Image > Select Image

  3. Browse through the SD card contents, and select the desired image

  4. Press Set as Startup Image (if this button is not visible, tap the image to bring up the controls)

  5. Wait for process to complete

  6. The custom image will be shown after a power cycle

Option 2
  1. Insert an SD card with the desired startup image

  2. Navigate to Info > Image Viewer

  3. Browse through the SD card contents, and select the desired image

  4. Press Menu > Set as Startup Image

  5. Wait for process to complete

  6. The custom image will be shown after a power cycle


To reset the startup image to the default:

Settings > System > Sounds and Display > Startup Image > Reset Image.
