TopoActive PowerSports Lite Maps on the Tread 2

The TopoActive PowerSports Lite Maps are a Little Different Than Traditional Outdoor TopoActive Maps.

  • The Powersports color scheme emphasizes unpaved/dirt roads for Off-Road activities and is tailored to match the look and feel of the City Navigator maps.
  • Feature colors are also optimized for use with the automotive map engine and Tread® 2 GPS navigator display.
  • Since TopoActive Powersports is tailored for the Automotive displays, it would not look good on Outdoor/Fitness devices.
  • Coverage for the TopoActive Powersports maps is exactly the same as standard TopoActive maps.

Features Included in TopoActive PowerSports Maps:

  • TopoActive PowerSports maps are not used for routing.
  • International boundaries, natural features, land use areas, historical sites, airport structures, buildings, boundaries for national parks, national forests and more.
  • Contour or elevation lines are at roughly 100ft intervals.
    • Contour line information varies based on location and detail the OpenStreetMap has for that area.
  • Trail Coverage:
    • Any trail added to OpenStreetMap is added to the Garmin map.
    • We do not limit which trails we include.
    • One advantage is the ability to interact with the map by adding trails or other relevant content which we can include in the next update.
    • See the OpenStreetMap website for more info.
  • Garmin Express is used for TopoActive PowerSports map updates.
    • These are updated periodically throughout the year, usually in the Spring and Fall.

The quality of the coverage will depend on the region. Urban areas will typically be more developed while coverage in rural areas may not be very good. TopoActive Maps are a Garmin OpenStreetMap Product.

TopoActive Maps are Made From OpenStreetMap

OpenStreetMap is the result of the contributions from public volunteers and so each contribution follows its own level of detail and has its own level of completeness in any given location. Overall, heavily used areas tend to have a lot of attention and tend to be more complete. This can vary widely by country or by region of a country.

  • For Western Europe, the map is very complete & very detailed.
  • For the US, the map has good detail overall but is more detailed in areas where the public has used/contributed to the map.
    • This generally includes urban areas, recreation areas, etc.
    • There will be areas where 24K is better and there will be areas where TopoActive is better, especially depending on the use case.
      • TOPO 24K maps are not included and can be purchased by visiting the Garmin website.
    • The map might be significantly different a few miles away.
  • In Canada and Australia, the coverage is moderate to good in urban areas and fairly basic in the outlying rural areas.
  • For other areas of the world, the coverage is typically very basic and limited to general coverage with some detail in larger urban areas.

NOTE: Anything stated above about detail or completeness can and will change with any given map update. We do not monitor the OpenStreetMap community data for the purposes of reporting map details.

You can contribute to this database for future releases by adding, updating, editing and commenting:
