Environmental Factors When Using the Approach R50

There are various environmental factors that may impact the data collected by your Approach® R50 launch monitor. These factors may cause you to see slight differences when using the launch monitor indoors when compared to using it outdoors.

Slope

If you are using the R50 outdoors, the slope of the driving range may cause the ball to travel further or shorter than shown on the Approach launch monitor. The Approach R50's Distance Range mode uses a driving range without any slope.

Ball Type

Using plastic, foam, or other types of limited flight golf balls can lead to inconsistent, incorrect, or no metrics being displayed by the launch monitor. Limited flight golf balls generally will have a stripe around their center and display "Range" or "Practice." These types of balls will normally fly anywhere from 60-80 percent of the distance of a regular golf ball. We recommend using regulation golf balls when using the Approach R50.

Wind

While using the Approach R50 in the Distance Range mode, it will account for your current elevation, humidity, and temperature, but it will not account for wind. The wind speed and direction will impact your shot distance but this will not be reflected on your Approach® R50 launch monitor.

Lighting

If bright lights are shining directly into the cameras of the R50, the accuracy of your ball metrics may be impacted. To prevent this we recommend repositioning the R50 in such a way where lights are not shining directly at the cameras.
