TüN® 4: Computer Settings for USB Microphones or Sound Cards

While TüN® Software has been optimized to work with the MAX™ Measurement System, it also allows the use of a third party sound card or USB microphone. In most cases, when a USB microphone is initially connected to a Windows PC or Mac computer, the system will automatically set it as the default input and make sensitivity adjustments. These changes may come with some unwanted consequences when it comes to taking measurements, so we'll go over some quick steps to rectify this and ensure proper measurements from your microphone for both platforms.

Windows Users

Step 1 - Navigate to the taskbar icons on the bottom right of the screen and Right-Click on the Sound icon, click on "Open Sound settings".

Step 4 - Then, click Properties, and choose the Levels tab. Ensure the Microphone level is between 75%-90%.

Note, this does not have to be at an exact level but we can't set it too low or the readings on TüN® will be below  threshold, and too high might cause you to overdrive the mic itself.

Step 5 - Select the Advanced tab. Deselect both of the exclusive mode options.
