Searching for a Location in Another Country on an Automotive Device
If you have a device that is preloaded with international maps (e.g., US & Canada, North America & Europe, full Europe) or if you purchase international maps for your automotive device, then you may want to search for a destination in a country other than the one you're currently located in.
Note that although you may be able to locate a destination in a different country, the device will not route you to that location if there are no roads that connect the two countries.
To Search for an Address in Another Country:
- Touch Where To?
- Touch Address
- Touch Spell Country
- On some devices, Touch Change State or Country first, followed by Change Country
- Some devices may not have these options
- In these instances, you'll be able to touch the "Spell State or Province" button
- Enter the desired territory as described above
- Spell the name of the desired country and select it from the list
After selecting the country you'd like to search in, you will be able to enter a territory that the address is located in (e.g., an American state, Canadian province, English county). Continue with your address search by entering the house number and street name when prompted.
To Search for a Point of Interest (POI) in Another Country:
- Touch Where To?
- Touch Points of Interest or Food, Lodging...
- Touch Near
- On some devices, touch the
menu icon first.
- On some devices, touch the
- Select A Different City
- Touch Save or OK
- Enter the name of the city the address is located in or near
- Select the appropriate city/territory combination (e.g., Toronto, ON or Beijing, Hebei)
- Touch Spell Name
- You may also touch an applicable category in this list to help narrow down your search.
- Enter the name of the POI (e.g., the name of a hotel, Eiffel Tower, Big Ben)
- Touch Done
The device should now display a list of POIs which match your search terms. Select the desired POI from the list.
Tips:
- If searching for a POI or business, you only need to type in the name of the POI, rather than the entire title.
- For example: "Louvre" instead of "Musée du Louvre" or "Louvre Museum".
- Locations are often listed with an abbreviated state/province/territory. The country may not be listed at all, or may only be abbreviated.
- Different countries have different address formats. Determining the address format used by a particular country ahead of time will yield the best results.
