Tread® Frozen or Not Powering On
See below for troubleshooting steps if your automotive device won't power on. See Why is the Battery on my Brand New Automotive Device Not Charged? if you are using your device for the first time.
Note: Temperature can affect your device's ability to power on or charge properly. See the Environment section below for more information.
Verify the Power Cable is Installed Properly:
1. Attach your device to the mount using installation instructions in the owner's manual
2. Drive normally with the device connected to power for at least 10 minutes
The Tread® should power on after taking these steps.
Remove Any Memory Cards in the Tread®:
- Format the memory card if this resolves your issue.
- See Formatting a microSD/SD Memory Card.
Reset the Tread®
A soft reset can help by forcing the Tread® to reboot if the Tread® still does not power on, or if the screen has become frozen and will not power off.
To Perform a Soft Reset:
- Connect the device to the mount using the power cable included with the device.
- An A/C adapter or automotive power cable may also be used.

- Press and hold the power button and slowly count to 20.
The Tread® should now turn on. Leave the device connected to power to give the battery time to charge.
Reset the Fuse
The Tread® power cable does not have a user-replaceable fuse. A re-settable fuse is built into the cable's black box. Reset the fuse by temporarily removing all power to the mounting cable if the Tread® isn't powering on or charging while in the mount.
Why is This Happening?
An issue where your Tread® will not turn on, is frozen, has a dead battery, or has a black screen can have several different causes:
Dead Battery:
- The Tread® will not turn on if it has an empty or "dead" battery.
- This can be resolved by charging the battery.
- This is not always as simple as connecting the Tread® to any cable or power source.

Environment
- The environment the Tread® is used in can affect its ability to properly receive power.
Software Problem:
- The Tread® may have run into a software "bug," "glitch," or another problem if the device "freezes" on a single screen and will not respond to your touch.
- Since all electronic devices do a large number of tasks and calculations every second, it is always possible for the device to get stuck at one point or another while in use.
- This problem may be solved with a software update.
