Types of Touchscreens Found On Garmin Outdoor Devices

Garmin outdoor products that have touchscreens use capacitive or resistive displays. Most Garmin products with a touchscreen have a capacitive touchscreen. Read below for information on each type of display and which models of Garmin outdoor devices use resistive displays.

Capacitive Touchscreens

Capacitive touchscreens use a conductive coating on the outside to sense touches. These types of displays have the benefit of being more sensitive, can register a precise touch, and multiple touchpoints at once. This sensitivity means the device can react to light touches and brushes with the skin. Some soft tip capacitive styli can be used with these displays.

Resistive Touchscreens

A resistive touchscreen is made up of layers that respond to pressure applied to the screen. Because resistive touchscreens respond to pressure, you can use a stylus, fingernail or other implements to touch the screen. Resistive screens can also be used while wearing gloves, making them ideal for hunting, snowmobiling, and skiing. Be careful that you do not apply too much pressure as this could damage the screen.
