"Invalid BirdsEye File" Error Message on a Garmin Handheld
Like many of our other products that require an unlock code, BirdsEye Satellite Imagery functions in the same fashion. When a BirdsEye subscription is tied to a device and then activated, a file is written to your MAC or Windows computer that contains this unlock information.
NOTE: If you are receiving this message on your device after inserting a HuntView map, updating your device software should resolve the problem. For assistance updating, see - Installing Software Updates to Outdoor Handhelds. Additionally, if you are trying to activate your BirdsEye subscription for the first time, please see Related.
Reasons for this Error
If a file associated with a different device and therefore different unlock code, is inserted into a new device, the Invalid BirdsEye File error will appear. This error indicates that the satellite imagery file on the card or loaded to the device is not unlocked to that device.
A file copied from one SD card to another without the use of BaseCamp™, will also result in the Invalid JNX or Invalid BirdsEye File error.
If you would like to use the same BirdsEye Satellite Imagery with multiple compatible devices, each device will need its own subscription. In order to use the same image on multiple devices, you need to use BaseCamp™ to transfer these images to each individual device. The following steps are the correct process for transferring these files to an additional device.
Transferring BirdsEye to an Additional Device
Connect the device to your computer. (Your device appears in the device list).
Right-click the downloaded imagery file, and select Send To.
If your Mac does not have a Right-click option hold Control on your keyboard and Click.
Select a folder on your device or memory card, and select OK.
A progress bar indicates the progress of the data transfer. Once the progress bar is gone, and a check mark appears on the folder, the transfer is complete.
If the device is displaying the Invalid JNX or Invalid BirdsEye File error, then the following steps can be done to remove this invalid file.
Removing BirdsEye from the Device
Connect the device to a computer.
Select the GARMIN drive (typically found in My Computer/Computer or as a mounted volume on a Mac Desktop) or SD card where the images are stored.
Select the Garmin folder.
Select the BirdsEye folder.
Open Garmin BaseCamp™.
Select the Garmin Device or SD card where the BirdsEye Imagery was stored in BaseCamp™.
Remove the JNX file from the BirdsEye folder of the GARMIN drive that does not appear in the BaseCamp™ List.
After removing BirdsEye images from device, reload BirdsEye images to device. If issue persists, BirdsEye images may need to be re-downloaded, as your current image may be corrupted.
