Simulating a Route on an Automotive Device
Simulating a route allows you to see how the device will navigate you without actually driving the route; the vehicle icon will move and the device will speak the turn instructions. This feature is useful when you are in a location where a satellite signal cannot be accessed or for calculating a planned route.
To simulate a route on an automotive device, the GPS Simulator must be turned on.
To Turn GPS Simulator on:
- On the main menu, touch Tools
- Skip this step on some devices
- Touch Settings
- Touch System
- Touch GPS Simulator or the button below/next to it
- Touch On
- Touch Save and/or OK
With the GPS Simulator on, you may now use the device to simulate a route to a given destination.
Follow the Steps Below After Turning the Simulator on if you Would like to Simulate a Route from a Different Starting Point Than your Current Location:
- Go back to the main menu
- Touch the
Stop icon to stop any current routes
- If this button is greyed out, that means that the device currently does not have a route active, and you will be able to simulate a route.
- Touch Where To?
- Locate and select the starting point (address, POI, city, intersection, etc.)
- Touch the Set Location or Set Loc button that appears on the bottom of the map screen
- Some devices require you to touch Map or Show map first
- Return to the main menu and touch Where To?
- Locate and select the desired destination
- Touch Go!
When asked if you would like to simulate driving the route, touch Yes.
Note: If the two locations are separated by the ocean (e.g., starting in the US and attempting a route simulation to a point in Europe), the device will attempt the calculation but will not succeed. Instead, it will return an error stating that it cannot calculate the route. This can be corrected by placing both points on the same continent.
