Recording an Activity on the GPSMAP 66/67/86 Series

The following GPSMAP® outdoor handhelds have a feature that allows the user to quickly start and stop activity track recording from multiple pages.

  • GPSMAP 66i | GPSMAP 66s | GPSMAP 66sr | GPSMAP 66st

  • GPSMAP 67 | GPSMAP 67i

  • GPSMAP 86i | GPSMAP 86s | GPSMAP 86sc | GPSMAP 86sci

You can also use the Recording Controls feature to start and stop an activity, view associated data (such as elevation and elapsed time/distance), and perform a TracBack. Steps for both are below.

What is an Activity vs Tracking?

Activities are recorded coordinates (or breadcrumbs) connected together, and their associated data (elevation, time, distance, etc). This is for the benefit of the device user to record and review their own activities.

Tracking is for the GPSMAP 66i, 67i, 86i, and 86sci only. Tracks are coordinates connected together that can be uploaded in real-time to a LiveTrack™ page or MapShare™ page with an active inReach® subscription. This is for the benefit of others to follow along while the tracking is in progress. For steps, see - Starting and Stopping Tracking on the GPSMAP 66i/67i/86i/86sci.

Quickly Starting or Stopping An Activity

The GPSMAP 66, 67, and 86 series record activities automatically once the device is powered on and acquires satellite signal.

To better control the recording instead, its best to clear previous trip data and disable the automatic recording. For steps, see - My Outdoor Handheld Has a Straight Track Line and Automatically Starts Recording.

  1. Access the Map, Compass, Trip Computer, or Altimeter page.

  2. Press Enter.

  3. Select the desired option.

    • Selecting Start starts the track log recording for the activity.

    • Selecting Stop stops the track log recording and brings up the save activity option.

After your have completed your activity, you may also want to save your associated data.

The following video will walk you through the steps for starting and stopping an activity.
