GLO_OPTIONAL.HPP Error in MapSource
The GLO_OPTIONAL.HPP error in MapSource® mapping software is often caused by a registry key on computers that have World Map installed.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, the registry key will need to be removed using Registry Editor.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. Garmin cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To Open Registry Editor:
Press the Windows key + R.
Type regedit.
Click OK.
NOTE: Before making any changes, create a backup of the registry.
To Back Up the Registry:
Click File in the menu bar of the Registry Editor.
Click Export.
Under Export range, click All.
Name the file (e.g. regbackup).
Choose an accessible location to save the file, such as the Desktop.
Click the Save button.
Registry Editor may appear to freeze for several minutes while the backup is created. "(Not Responding)" may also display in the title bar during this process. Once the application starts responding again, the registry key can be deleted.
To delete the registry key:
- Click ▷ next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Click ▷ next to Software
- Click ▷ next to GARMIN
- Click ▷ next to MapSource
- Click ▷ next to Families
- Right-click World Map Vxxx (xxx is a number)
- Click Delete
If this entry is removed, the MapSource software and the World Map will work correctly. If you do not have a World Map, the message can appear even if other software is blocking the MapSource program. In this case, remove the software.
Once the registry key is removed the GLO_OPTIONAL.HPP error will no longer occur.
