"The data was not successfully sent" error in MapInstall
Description
The MapInstall™ program may fail to send maps to a device with the error The data was not successfully sent. This issue is usually caused by the loss of communication with the device or data card. On rare occasions this issue is caused by corruption on the device or data card that prevents the map from transferring.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, try the following:
- Ensure that the computer does not sleep, shut down, or hibernate during the installation
- Use a direct USB connection to the computer (avoid USB hubs and keyboard / monitor USB ports)
- Disconnect other USB devices (printers, cameras, external drives, etc.)
- Try using an SD card reader if sending maps to an SD card
- Try using a different USB cable that supports data transfer
If these steps do not resolve the issue:
- Run a check disk on the Garmin mass storage device
- Format the data card
After performing these steps, test the MapInstall program by transferring a small region of the map to the data card or device. If a small portion transfers successfully, the MapInstall program should also be able to send a larger map region to the device or data card.
After performing these steps, the map will successfully transfer to the device.
