Requesting Weather Forecasts With the Garmin Messenger™ App
When the Garmin Messenger™ app is paired to an inReach compatible device with an active subscription, it is able to request weather forecasts to be delivered back to the inReach® compatible device and app. Weather forecasts requested through the Garmin Messenger app will automatically include both premium/extended forecast data and marine forecast data, if available, whenever a new forecast is requested.
This article covers how to request weather forecasts from the Garmin Messenger app only. For instructions on how to request a weather forecast using the device itself, see Related.
Important Notes
Some devices that are compatible with the Garmin Messenger app may have separate options for Basic, Premium/Extended, or Marine weather forecasts when requesting a forecast from the device rather than the app. Basic weather forecasts previously counted as one text message each, and there were additional fees for extended and marine weather forecasts. All types of inReach weather forecasts now count as one text message each towards your monthly plan allotment. A marine forecast will be included for locations on an ocean or other large body of water, if available. If you are unable to get a marine forecast, select a location further from shore.
Requesting weather forecasts is only available when the Garmin Messenger app is connected to a device loaded with the latest firmware version. If you do not have an option for Weather in the app, use the Garmin Express™ program to ensure your device is up to date.

Requesting a Weather Forecast
Ensure your inReach device is powered on and paired with the Garmin Messenger app.
Select Weather
.Select an option:
Select My Location, or another previously saved weather location.
Select Add Location to request a forecast for a new location, then select Use Map or Use Garmin Explore and follow the prompts.
NOTE: The Use Map option requires an internet connection to use Apple Maps or Google Maps (depending on the model of phone) when selecting a new location. The Garmin Explore™ app offers downloadable maps, so the Use Garmin Explore option does not require an internet connection (see - Downloading Maps With the Garmin Explore App).
If there is an existing forecast that has not yet expired, select
, otherwise skip to the next step.Select Get Forecast or Update Forecast.
Once weather has been received, the page will update with the weather.
