Backing Up User Data on a Garmin GPSMAP® 276c, GPSMAP®376c, GPSMAP®378 or GPSMAP®478

NOTE: HomePort™ has been discontinued. For additional information regarding the discontinuation, see HomePort Application Discontinued.

It is always recommended to periodically back up valuable user data such as waypoints, routes and tracks. This is especially true when performing software updates and other changes to your device that could unfortunately result in data loss. Backing up the data also allows you the ability to edit the information and send it back to the device.

If you would like to backup your user data, the HomePort program will need to be used. HomePort is a free program and can be downloaded from the Garmin website.

Note: If this is the first time your device has been connected to your computer, install the latest USB drivers to your computer so that there are no communication complications.

In order to backup the user data on your portable marine chartplotter, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the HomePort program

  2. Connect the portable chartplotter to the computer

  3. Once the device is recognized by HomePort, your device will be listed on the left side of the screen

  4. Below the device a folder named All Data will appear

  5. Left-click on that folder named All Data.

  6. In the lower left corner of your computer screen, a list of all user data (waypoints, routes, and tracks) stored on your device will appear

  7. To backup your user data, Right-Click on the All Data folder

  8. Select Send To from the menu that appears

  9. Select My Collection

Once this process is complete, the data will have been copied to your computer, saved in the My Collection folder.

To send the information back to your portable marine chartplotter:

  1. Right-click on the My Collection folder on the left side of the screen

  2. Select Send To

  3. Select your portable marine chartplotter listed

  4. Select All Data

The information from the computer will then be sent back to your portable marine chartplotter's internal memory.
