Reactor™ 40 Kicker Autopilot Preferred Speed Source

Tachometer - NMEA 2000

The recommended speed source for Reactor™ 40 Kicker Autopilot is an NMEA 2000 tachometer. The NMEA 2000 tachometer provides the best feedback for the autopilot, mainly when trolling at low speeds.

GPS - NMEA 2000

If the tachometer sensor is not used, set it to the connected GPS. When using GPS - NMEA 2000 or 0183, there are certain limitations. Since GPS speed cannot differentiate trolling motor speed from external forces on the boat (wind and current), once the wind and water current start to push the boat, it can negatively affect autopilot performance when trolling at low speeds.

None

This option is a last resort. While the autopilot will work, it will not operate as effectively without a speed source. With a speed source, the autopilot calculates using the rate of speed and the amount of throttle applied to navigation.
