What Has Changed to the Subscription Model When I Buy a New Subscription?

With the release of the Navionics® Boating app version 20.0, any new purchase includes a 1-year auto-renewable subscription for the download of chart content for that specific region, and its use thereof. Without renewing the subscription, you will no longer have access to the previously downloaded charts, as they will be hidden, nor will you be able to download new areas within your coverage. Previously downloaded charts will become visible/accessible again as soon as the subscription for that region is renewed.

I Purchased the Navionics® Boating App Before the Version 20.0 Release. Why Can I no Longer Download Chart Detail?

Since the release of the Navionics Boating app version 20.0 on Oct. 25, 2023, new downloads of charts for expired legacy products are no longer possible.  Purchases of these legacy products included cartography for personal use and included a subscription for downloadable chart updates and use of advanced features for the duration of 1-year. The original purchase did not include or warrant any lifetime support in terms of free downloadable content. Starting with Navionics Boating app version 20.0, the download of any new charts provides the latest updated cartography and it's use thereof, provided the subscription is active.

Even though downloads of charts for areas of the product not covered by already downloaded content continued to be available with legacy products, even without an active subscription, this was not a benefit or part of the services included in the subscription. Therefore, end users should not have had the expectation to continue using or downloading content after expiration.

When is Downloaded Chart Content Lost?

Charts already downloaded and stored in the internal memory of the mobile device can continue to be used on that same device, provided that you do not log in with a different user account or uninstall the Navionics Boating app from the device. In both cases, these actions will clear the internal memory of the device and chart content is erased from that device.

Can I Install a Legacy Product on a New Device?

Yes, but installing the Navionics Boating app on a new device will not transfer the charts from your other device, nor is it possible to download new charts on that new device, unless an active subscription is available for a specific chart region.

What Happens to My Old Chart Content When I Buy a New Subscription?

When you own a legacy product and the new subscription purchase coverage area (partially) overlaps with that legacy product, the old charts that fall inside the new region will be replaced when downloading the new content included in that subscription. Once the subscription expires, you will no longer be able to view the charts within that new region, but you will continue to view the old content of the legacy product that falls outside of that new region, provided that you do not log in with a different user account or uninstall the Navionics Boating app from the device as mentioned above.
