What is Power Averaging on a Garmin Outdoor Watch?
Power averaging refers to the way that average power is calculated for a cycling activity when a power meter is in use. With this set to OFF, zero values are excluded when calculating your overall average power. Your average for that activity will be higher as it will only calculate power when your cranks are turning.
Example
For a 60 second time period you coast for 30 seconds and pedal at 200 watts for the other 30 seconds.
With zero averaging ON your average power would be 100
With zero averaging OFF your average power would be 200
