My Forerunner or Edge Is Not Powering on or Charging
This FAQ applies only to the following Forerunner and Edge models:
- Forerunner 205, 305, 310XT, and 910XT
- Edge 205, 305, 605, and 705
If your Forerunner or Edge device will not turn on or the battery will not charge, performing a hard reset and cleaning the charging contacts can sometimes resolve this issue.
Perform a Hard Reset on the Forerunner or Edge
No user information will be lost by doing this reset.
Connect your device to a power source using the charging cable.
Press and hold MODE and LAP/RESET for 10 seconds.
Release both buttons.
Power the device on.
Inspect and Clean the Charging Contacts
If your device will not power on or take a charge following the soft reset, inspect and clean the charging contacts and charging cable following the tips below.
- Confirm that the cable is not damaged which would prevent the device from charging. Check the charging pins to ensure they are free of debris and not damaged. Replace the cable if necessary.
- If you notice dirt or debris on the charging contact points for the device or charging cord, use a pencil eraser or a cotton swab dipped in a safe cleaning agent to clean them. The following non-abrasive cleaning agents are safe and effective options for cleaning the contacts:
- Rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl)
- Eye glass cleaner
- Electronic screen wipes
- Pencil eraser
Once all contacts have been cleaned, soft reset the device again using the instructions above.
