You need Garmin Express software installed on your computer first. If you already have the Garmin Express program installed, skip this step.
Connect your inReach Mini to the computer with a Micro USB Data cable.
The Garmin Express program will be launched during the installation process. If you already had it installed, launch the Garmin Express program.
Windows: Either double-click the Garmin Express icon in the system tray (next to your time), double-click the shortcut on the desktop, or search for Garmin Express in your Start menu.
Mac: Garmin Express can be found in the Applications folder in Finder.
Select the inReach Mini, or click Add a Device and follow the on-screen prompts if your inReach Mini is not listed.
Garmin Express will display the available updates. Click Install or Install All to install all of the updates.
Review the Terms and Conditions and click Accept to proceed.
Review the important notes before continuing to ensure the software update installs smoothly. Click Continue.
Once the update starts, Garmin Express will display the current progress.
TIP: Hover your mouse cursor over the progress bar for detailed progress information.
You will see a You're up to date! message when the update is finished.
Disconnect your inReach Mini from the computer and power it on. You will see Applying Update on the inReach Mini, then it will return to the home screen once complete.

Updating the Firmware and Syncing Account Information to an inReach Mini
The inReach® Mini satellite communicator receives updates from two different computer programs - the Garmin Express™ program and the inReach Sync program. We highly recommend following the instructions to run both Garmin Express and inReach Sync for the best experience with your inReach Mini. See the instructions below for both programs.
Garmin Express
Garmin Express applies firmware updates to the inReach Mini, but it will not sync any account changes such as subscription plan changes, updated Contacts, QuickText, or Check-in Messages ( formerly known as Preset Messages). To sync account information, see inReach Sync below.
inReach Sync
inReach Sync and the Earthmate® app cannot send firmware updates to your inReach Mini. To install firmware updates, see Garmin Express above.
After adding or editing Contacts, QuickText, or Check-in Messages ( formerly known as Preset Messages) on your Garmin Explore account, it is important to use inReach Sync to ensure your information is updated directly to the inReach Mini through a wired connection.

inReach Sync for Windows

Log in at the Garmin Explore website.
Select Plans & Devices.
Select Sync & Update.
Select Windows or Mac to start the download.
Locate the download on your computer and open it:
If prompted, choose where you want to save the file, then click Save.
When the download finishes, you will see it at the bottom of your Chrome window. Click the file name to open it.
When prompted, click Save File.
When the download finishes, the down arrow on your toolbar will appear blue
. Click the down arrow, then click the file name to open it.
When the downloaded finishes, it should display under the down arrow on your toolbar. Click the file name to open it.
NOTE: If you do not see this, select ••• in the top right, then Downloads.
- Follow onscreen prompts to complete installation.
Plug the inReach Mini into the computer.
Launch inReach Sync from the computer (see Opening inReach Sync on a Windows or Mac Computer).
TIP: Log in if requested. Use the same email and password the device is associated with.
inReach Sync will automatically detect your inReach Mini and begin syncing.
Close inReach Sync when the sync completes.
inReach Sync for Mac

Log in at the Garmin Explore website.
Select Plans & Devices.
Select Sync & Update.
Select Windows or Mac to start the download.
Locate the download on your computer and open it:
NOTE: On Mac, the file should appear on your desktop
If prompted to allow downloads on explore.garmin.com, click Allow.
Click the down arrow on your toolbar, then double-click the file name to open it.
If prompted, choose where you want to save the file, then click Save.
When the download finishes, you will see it at the bottom of your Chrome window. Click the file name to open it.
When prompted to save the file, click OK.

What If My Plan is Suspended?
Only data from the account will sync to an inReach device while suspended.
Data recorded by an inReach device will not sync to the Earthmate app or to the Garmin Explore website. Data recorded during this period will sync once the account has an active subscription.
