Syncing an Alpha 300i for Professional Users

It is important to sync an inReach® satellite communicator after any account changes are made on the Garmin Explore™ website as outlined in section 2.2 of the Service Terms for inReach Professional Service Plans.

Syncing data, contacts, preset messages, and quick text messages, and account changes for devices on Professional accounts can be performed by the administrator or sub-users who have been provided a log in email address and password for the Garmin Explore website.

IMPORTANT FOR ADMINISTRATORS: Passwords must be set for sub-users before they can sync assigned devices with the Garmin Messenger app. For steps to set user passwords, see - Changing Passwords in a Professional inReach Account.

Alpha® 300i dog tracking handhelds that are active on Professional accounts can be synced via Bluetooth using the Garmin Messenger™ app on a smartphone using the steps below. The Alpha 300i handheld can also be synced via microSD card using the File Based Configuration tool or via the Satellite Network using the processes outlined in Configuring Garmin Handhelds for a Professional Administrator.

Pairing With the Garmin Messenger App as Administrator or Sub-User

Before getting started, the Garmin Messenger app should be installed from the app store on the smartphone being used to sync. The smartphone should have an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data) to sync account information through the Garmin Messenger app.

1. In the Garmin Messenger™ app, select the profile icon in the top left.
2. Select Add Device (or Devices > Add Device).
3. Allow any app permissions when prompted.
4. When powering on the Alpha handheld for the first time you will be prompted to select a language, then activate and it will automatically start looking for the Garmin Messenger app.
5. If you are not prompted to pair with Garmin Messenger during the initial setup, update your software.
6. If you had skipped this previously, you can enable pairing mode on the Alpha by selecting   > Setup > Bluetooth > Continue.
7. If you Alpha handheld is currently connected with the Garmin Alpha app on your phone, skip to step 5.
8. In the Garmin Messenger app, select Connect It and enter the 6 digit code from the Alpha handheld when prompted.

Once paired, syncing occurs automatically when the Garmin Messenger app is opened.

Syncing With the Garmin Explore Website and Garmin Messenger App

When the Garmin Messenger app is opened or refreshed, it automatically syncs between the Garmin Explore website and the paired handheld device when it is powered on. It can take a few moments for both to complete.

Administrator Steps to Sync Multiple User-Assigned Devices in the Garmin Messenger App

Multiple user-assigned devices can be synced through the Garmin Messenger app by the administrator by signing out of the Garmin Messenger app, signing in with the email address and password assigned to the sub-user, then pairing and syncing the next device.

Signing Out of the Garmin Messenger App

1. Open the Garmin Messenger app.
2. Select the profile icon in the top left.
3. Select Accounts.
4. Select Manage Garmin Account.
5. Select Sign Out.

After signing out of the app, follow the steps in the previous section to pair the next device to be synced with the Garmin Messenger app using the log in credentials assigned to the device.
