Garmin Speak Plus Not Recording or Missing Video

Follow the steps below if saved or unsaved footage from your Garmin Speak™ Plus cannot be found on the Garmin Drive™ app or the device's SD card:

  1. Ensure the device is recording video
  2. Check SD card compatibility
  3. Ensure the device and Garmin Drive app are up to date
  4. Format or replace the SD card

Ensure the Device is Recording Video

Ensure that the Garmin Speak Plus is receiving power. The device has no internal battery and will not operate if it is not connected to a power source.

Make sure the SD card is inserted all the way into the Garmin Dash Cam Mini. If it is not, the Garmin Drive app will show an error message. It is easiest to use a fingernail to press the SD card into the slot at the side of the device until a click is heard.

Open the Garmin Drive app on your phone to ensure the Garmin Speak Plus is detected. The Garmin Drive app will give troubleshooting instructions if there is an error.

The Garmin Speak Plus cannot record video while the device has been placed into sharing mode with the Garmin Drive app. This is indicated by a rotating orange LED ring when the device is trying to establish a Wi-Fi connection with the Garmin Drive app, or a solid orange ring when the connection has been established.

Press the action (lower-left) button on the Garmin Speak Plus device to exit the sharing mode. It is not sufficient to exit the gallery or close the Garmin Drive app, which will instruct you to press the action button on the device.


Check SD Card Compatibility

The Garmin Speak Plus may not be able to record footage onto incompatible SD cards. See SD Memory Card Compatibility for the Garmin Speak Plus for more information.


Ensure the Device and Garmin Drive app are up-to-date

The software of your Garmin Speak Plus can be updated using either the Garmin Drive app on a smartphone, or the Garmin Express™ software on a computer. See below for instructions:

Format or Replace the SD card

The SD card may need to be formatted to record more footage if it contains corrupted data. See Formatting a microSD Card in the Garmin Speak Plus.

You may need to replace the card if the Garmin Speak Plus still shows no videos recorded after formatting the card or if the card cannot be formatted. See below for instructions:
