Updating the Software on a Device That Will Not Charge
If the battery is not charging at all or fails to charge completely it is important to ensure that the software on the unit is fully up to date using Garmin Express™.
Follow the Steps below to Complete the Software Update:
- Connect the device to the computer
- Download and install Garmin Express
- Open Garmin Express™
- Click on Add a Device
- Once the device is detected click the Add Device button
- Follow the on-screen instructions within Garmin Express to complete the setup process
- Click the Install button when the Software Update Available box appears
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update
At this point you can power the device on to finish applying the update. If your unit will not power on at all under battery power follow the steps below to complete this process:
- Disconnect the unit from your computer
- Connect the unit to the AC cable
- If it does not turn on automatically, press the Power button
- Wait for the update to complete
After these steps have been followed, leave the device plugged into the AC adapter to charge. Press the Power button once to put the device in charging mode for a faster charging time.
If the battery was very depleted it may take up to 3+ hours for the device to show signs of charging. If the battery stops charging partway through disconnect the unit from the AC adapter and then plug it back in. It should now complete the charging process.
