Runtime Error When Opening MapSource

A runtime error may be displayed when opening MapSource® software.


Resolution


This error can be corrected by:

  • Checking for Microsoft updates
  • Disabling security programs
  • Uninstalling and Reinstalling the MapSource program

When uninstalling the MapSource program, the Garmin registry keys may need to be removed manually to resolve the issue.  Follow the instructions below to remove these registry keys with Registry Editor.

To delete the registry key:

  1. Click  next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
  2. Click ▷ next to Software
  3. If a Garmin folder is present then right-click on the folder
  4. Click Delete
  5. Click ◢ next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER to collapse the folder
  6. Click ▷ next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  7. Click next to Software
  8. Click ▷ next to Wow6432Node (This step only applies to 64-bit users)
  9. If a Garmin folder is present then right-click on the folder
  10. Click Delete
  11. Reinstall the Garmin Maps

After making these changes to MapSource software the error should no longer appear.
