Limitations when Loading Map Segments to an Automotive Device
When using MapInstall™ or MapSource® programs to send maps to a device, each map item selected is called a map segment or a map set. You can select multiple map segments and send them all at once to a device or a memory card.
Automotive devices do not have a limit on the total number of map segments they can read. When sending maps to an automotive device, you are only limited by the following:
Total available memory on the device, if sent directly to the device
- Some devices will not be able to read a file that is larger than 2 GB but are able to read an SD card larger than 2GB. Devices that cannot read a map file larger than 2 GB are the BMW nüvi® 350, BMW nüvi® 360, nüvi® 350, nüvi® 360, nüvi® 370, nüvi® 600, nüvi® 650, nüvi® 660, nüvi® 670, nüvi® 680, and nüvi® 5000 GPS navigators.
Total available memory on the SD card, if sent directly to a memory card
MapSource and MapInstall software limitations
- MapSource and MapInstall programs will only allow you to send a maximum of 4 GB of map data at a time, although there is no limit to the number of map segments a device can receive or read.
