AIS 800 Setup Software

Before installing the Garmin® AIS 800 Blackbox Transceiver, the MMSI must be programmed into the AIS for it to be seen and receive information.  While there are generally no restrictions for end-users outside of the US, AIS programming within the US is restricted only to Authorized Dealers/Installers. 

The AIS 800 Setup Software may appear to support updating the software of the AIS 800, especially when a GUPDATE.GCD file is dragged onto the application, however the AIS 800 Setup Software is looking for a .HEX file, and these files are not available to customers or Garmin Product Support. The AIS 800 is only detected at a computer with the AIS 800 Setup Software and other Garmin applications will not detect the AIS 800.

Software updates to the AIS 800 must occur via NMEA 2000 from a Garmin chartplotter or via a Garmin NMEA 2000 Software Updater. For more information see Garmin Marine Device Software Updates.
