What Messages Do I Pay For With My inReach Plan?
Most inReach® satellite subscription plans have limits on how many satellite messages can be sent or received each month before you receive overage charges. Once your included monthly message limits have been reached, each text message overage will cost 0.50 USD1 and each photo or voice message overage will cost $1 USD.1 Overage charges will be applied to your monthly bill.
How Many Included Messages Do I Get Per Month?
The number of included messages depends on the level of service you signed up for:
Safety2 Plan: 10 text messages
Essential Plan: 50 text messages, 10 photo or voice messages
Recreation2 Plan: 40 text messages
Standard Plan: 150 text messages, 25 photo or voice messages
Expedition2 and Extreme3 Plans: unlimited text messages (overage charges do not apply)
Premium Plans: unlimited text messages (overage charges do not apply), 50 photo or voice messages
What Counts as a Text Message?
Each outbound satellite text message (including sharing a MapShare™ link), inbound satellite text message, and weather request counts as a text message towards your plan. There are only a few exceptions to this:
Check-In/Preset4 Messages
Outbound check-in/preset4 messages are free and do not count towards your included amount.
Each inbound reply counts as a message.
Inbound check-in/preset4 messages received by another inReach user are free and do not count towards your included amount.
Up to 5 free test messages are included. Test messages can still be sent after the 5 free are used up, but each additional message costs $0.50 USD.
For more information, see - Testing inReach Service to Verify Active Subscription.
Activating an SOS
Messages to the Garmin Response™ team during an SOS are not charged. For messages to anyone other than the Garmin Response center during an SOS (local search and rescue teams, family, friends, etc.), standard messaging charges will be applied.
If you have questions about using an SOS in specific scenarios, or have follow-up questions after having triggered an SOS for any reason, contact the Garmin Response℠ Center.
What Counts as a Photo or Voice Message?
The inReach Messenger Plus satellite communicator is currently the only Garmin device that has the ability to send and receive photo and voice messages over the Iridium satellite network. For more details, see - Sending a Photo or Voice Message With the Garmin Messenger App.
