My Outdoor Handheld Has a Straight Track Line
Most Garmin® outdoor handhelds are designed to record track points when powered on and connected to satellites. This is by design, to allow you to simply power the device on and begin your activity.
Because of this, you may notice straight lines between when you power the device on and off at home, then back on at the trailhead, as an example. The device assumes it lost you between those points and connects them with a straight line. You may also see this if you insert new batteries in the middle of an activity.
Removing Straight Track Lines
If there are saved tracks that already include straight lines, the only way to remove them is by using the BaseCamp™ program to manually edit the track line and delete any extra points from it. For instructions, see - Detailed Track Editing in BaseCamp.
Preventing Straight Track Lines
To prevent the straight lines from being included in the actual path followed, the track log should be reset at the start of each activity using the steps below.
Select Track Manager from the main menu.
Select Current Track.
Select Clear Current Track.
Select Yes or Clear.
NOTE: You can also reset the trip data to ensure the new track and associated trip data will coincide with each other. For steps on resetting trip data, refer to your owners manual.
