How Do I Revoke or Allow Consent to Upload My Data to Garmin Connect?

Garmin allows you to manage what happens with the data recorded on your device through a setting in the Garmin Connect™ app or using our Garmin Express™ program. This setting allows you to choose whether or not you want to upload your data to Garmin.

To change your upload consent preferences, select your preferred platform below to expand and display detailed instructions.


Garmin Connect App Instructions

NOTE:  When consent has been revoked the Home screen of the app is replaced with My Device.

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Select More (bottom right).

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Select Profile & Privacy.

  5. Select Data.

  6. Select Device Upload and then select the toggle switch to enable/disable the data upload feature.

    • You can also enable or disable this feature by selecting Storage & Processing and then Agree (to opt in) or Opt Out & Delete Data. If you choose to Opt Out & Delete Data, data stored in your Garmin Connect account will be permanently deleted within 72 hours of opting out. Once this process is started it cannot be stopped, and you cannot opt back in until the process has been completed. You will be required to confirm that you wish to delete your data and enter your Garmin Connect password. 


Garmin Express Instructions

NOTE: When Device Upload is disabled there will no longer be a Sync button available in Garmin Express.

  1. Open Garmin Express.

  2. Select your device.

  3. Select Tools & Content.

  4. Select Privacy.

  5. Select the toggle switch for Garmin Device Upload to enable/disable the feature.

    • You can also enable or disable this feature by selecting Change Upload Preferences under Connect Data Upload and then Agree (to opt in) or Opt Out & Delete Data. If you choose to Opt Out & Delete Data, data stored in your Garmin Connect account will be permanently deleted within 72 hours of opting out. Once this process is started it cannot be stopped. and you cannot opt back in until the process has been completed.


With this feature disabled, any new data from your device will not be uploaded. You can still upload data that you enter manually or track through third-party apps, and you will also receive device software updates and can send data such as workouts or profile information from Connect to your Garmin device(s). You can consent to upload data to Garmin at any time by repeating the steps above.
