Sending a Check-In/Preset Message From a Tread

Check-In Messages (formerly known as Preset Messages) are found at the Garmin Explore™ website and have predefined text and recipients.1

While sending one of these messages does not count against your monthly inReach message allotment, replies will.

Sending a Check-In/Preset Message

If you have recently made changes to your Check-In (or Preset) messages, it is important to sync your Garmin device to ensure it has the latest version of these messages.

  1. Select inReach or Team Tracking

  2. Select Check-In or Preset

  3. Select the message you wish to send

  4. Select Send

The selected message will be sent. Make sure you have a clear view of the sky to ensure the message is sent. 


1 Check-in messages have replaced preset messages as of September 27th, 2022. inReach® accounts set up prior to this date will still have preset messages available, but any new accounts created after this date will use check-in messages.
