Using the Respiration Widget Glance on Your Garmin Watch

The Respiration widget glance shows your breaths per minute (BRPM). Your watch measures this using Heart Rate Variability (HRV) data from its optical heart rate sensor. You can use this glance to track your breathing throughout the day or while you sleep.

Keep in mind that activity and movement can affect your watch's ability to accurately read HRV via the optical sensor, which means it won't be able to calculate your BRPM. For tracking respiration rate during any activity, we recommend using a Garmin® HRM-Pro™ Plus, HRM-Pro™, HRM-Run™, HRM-Tri™, or HRM-Dual™ heart rate monitor to capture reliable HRV and respiration data. Note that third-party chest strap heart rate monitors may not provide respiration data.

Typical resting respiration rates are between 12-20 BRPM. During activities, your BRPM can be significantly higher, often between 40-50 BRPM.

IMPORTANT: Garmin® wearables are not medical devices, and the data provided by them is not intended to be utilized for medical purposes and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Garmin recommends you consult your doctor before engaging in any exercise routine.
